| Tibet: Kickin’ It Up North | A Road Trip of Physical and Mental Breakthroughs, from Lhasa East to Nyingchi (Part 1 – Mila Pass and Toilet Tales)
The mission on day three of my Tibet trip was to drive more than 400 km east from Lhasa, cross the Mila Pass at an altitude of over 5,000 metres, and finally reach Nyingchi, the easternmost point of this journey. Our only sightseeing stop along the way was Basum Tso, a lake of historical significance in Tibetan Buddhism. I had assumed it would simply be a full day of driving with nothing particularly noteworthy. Little did I know that it would unexpectedly become a pivotal day of overcoming one mental hurdle after another and instantly immersing myself in local life. Apparently, when a city slicker ventures into the countryside, it doesn’t just open their eyes—it can expand the boundaries of the mind too! (As long as it doesn’t open a portal to the spirit world.) (Hey!)
