Like an endless 90-mile beach, but step by step, I reached the end and walked into the small town on the other side.
On the fifth day of the Te Araroa Trail, I’d passed the first real test of this 3,000-kilometre hike. Boredom, physical torment, blisters—none of it mattered anymore.
I am amazing!
Exhausted but satisfied, I lay on the beach, savouring this moment, and then—I didn’t want to see another beach for a while!
